BMW 1 Series Problems Used Car

Bavarian "kopeck", where to look for a dirty trick: BMW's shortcomings 1 series with a run
BMW 1 Series - a hatchback is not very large, but it is these cars are increasingly gaining popularity among young motorists. And it is not surprising that many manufacturers of premium cars make a big accent on cars in this type of body, they are in demand by buyers, which means they will sell well. In the CIS, the popularity of the hatchback from BMW is more determined not by the convenience and utilitarianity of this car, but by the prestige of the brand, and by the fact that the "unit" in the secondary market has a fairly affordable price, while the emblem of the popular German manufacturer flaunts proudly on the hood.

A bit of history:
The world premiere of BMW 1 series was held in 2004, in the people, the car immediately began to be called "Kopeyka" or "Edinichka". According to the type of body of the BMW of the first series - a rear-wheel drive five-door hatchback of a golf class with a longitudinal engine arrangement, its factory index "E87". The unit is built on a platform of different models (BMW 5 and 3 series). In March 2007, the car underwent restyling, as a result of which the front part slightly changed, and a wider air intake with horizontal decorative bars and integrated rectangular fog lights was added. In the rear, lights were changed and LED lights were added, and the rear bumper was slightly wider. Changes have touched and the interior - the central console has been changed. In the same year, the world premiere of a three-door version of BMW 1 series with new engines was held. The debut single in the body of the "coupe" was held in September 2007 at the international auto show in Frankfurt, and in 2008 a compact four-seater cabriolet was presented. The debut of the second generation BMW 1 series was held as part of the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2011.

BMW 1 Series
The quality of the BMW 1 Series body can not but rejoice, even on the very first copies (if they did not manage to visit serious accidents), you will not find any signs of corrosion. There are no complaints about the quality of paint and varnish coatings, it suffers quite well against the external effects of the "unit". The BMW 1 series can be equipped with both petrol and diesel power units: petrol 1.6 (116 and 122 hp), 2.0 (129 and 136 hp), 3.0 (265 hp), diesel 2.0 (from 115 to 207 hp). Owners of cars, with the weakest engine, often face the problem of starting the engine in the cold season. The matter is that at a cold start not all cylinders are connected, as a result, a difficult start and unstable operation of the engine. The drive timing at this motor chain, unfortunately, the first problems with it begin early enough (after 40,000 km run). The weak point is not the chain itself, but its tensioner, therefore, experienced owners, in order to avoid serious problems, it is recommended to carry out adjustment of the chain tensioner every 30-40 thousand km. Two-liter units are considered more reliable, although they have failures in systems that are responsible for raising the intake valves. If the system fails, the corresponding indicator lights up on the instrument panel. Also, this drawback will negatively affect the power and fuel consumption. The three-liter motor is the most reliable among the petrol power units, unfortunately, there are very few cars with such a motor on the secondary market. If we talk in general about gasoline engines, then after 100,000 km the consumption of oil begins to increase, and the more mileage, the greater the consumption. Diesel engines are very reliable, but buying cars with such a motor you need to understand that they are demanding on the quality of oil and diesel fuel, plus diesel engines need to be serviced more often than gasoline ones. And if the previous owner has neglected these requirements, then you will have an expensive repair of the fuel system and turbines.
BMW 1 Series
The basic version of the BMW 1 Series is equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox; The six-speed automatic can be manually switched and installed optionally. Choosing BMW 1 series with mileage, it is better to choose the automatic transmission. The fact is that many owners are young people who like to lighten up, as a result, very quickly the clutch dies, also, the life of the box has significantly decreased. In the rest, the mechanical box does not present unpleasant surprises. At the machine, the most common problem is jerking when switching to lower gears. In most cases, to solve the problem, it is enough to reflash the electronic control box. Quality of the interior, traditionally for the German manufacturer, is high-quality materials and assembly. But, not without a fly in the ointment, many owners of BMW 1 series often encounter a failure in the electrical equipment of the passenger compartment, most often failures occur due to the jamming of the connection junctions. Also, if the car is more than 5 years old, you need to pay attention to the condition of the power wires, because at that age they begin to smell and they have to be changed. Frequent cases of failure of the steering adjustment mechanism, to solve the problem, you have to change the entire assembly assembly. If the previous owner did not follow the condition of the door seals, then in the rainy weather, water will appear in the salon.
BMW 1 Series

Front mounted aluminum suspension type McPherson, rear - mnogorychazhka. Often, about the suspension of BMW say that it requires a large investment in repairs. Unfortunately, BMW 1 series is one of these cars, and given the quality of our roads, the need for repair will not take long to wait. Most often it is necessary to change the stabilizer struts, every 30-40 thousand km, front shock absorbers rarely live up to 50,000 km. The other elements of the suspension last a little longer: the silent blocks of the levers, the rear shock absorbers, the ball bearings will ask for replacement closer to 100,000 km. In steering, the rake is very tenacious, but the tips rarely travel more than 50,000 km. The life of the braking system depends heavily on the driving style, on average, the front blocks live 30,000 km, the disks - 60,000 km, the rear pads - 40,000 km, the disks - 80,000 km. Before buying, check if the steering wheel beats when braking, then the wheels are already driving. The BMW 1 Series, like all used cars, has many shortcomings, but with the right selection of the car, proper maintenance and careful operation, they are not very long will make themselves felt. In general, this car is quite reliable, but if you have a large family, it is better to look at the more spacious models of this brand.
