After our review, you know about the problems with Ford Fiesta
Strong small: deficiencies of Ford Fiesta 5 with a run
- an excellent choice for the townspeople. Initially, with us, this type of car was perceived as female, but, in recent years, the trend has changed significantly and at the wheel of this brisk car more often you can meet men. The secret of such success lies in the fact that we begin to appreciate the maneuverability, ease of operation of the hatchback and low fuel consumption. And here, as is the case with the reliability of the second-hand Ford Fiesta of the fifth generation and what to look for when buying such a car in the secondary market, this is now and we will talk.
A bit of history:
The debut of the first generation of Ford Fiestas was held in 1975 at a press conference in Detroit. At that time it was a real breakthrough, as this model became the first, well-sold front-wheel drive car. In 1983, the second generation of the car was presented to the audience. And in 1989 the sales of the third generation of Fiesta started, which technically practically did not differ from the previous version, but had a completely different appearance. In the same year was presented and a five-door version of the hatchback. In 1995, at the Frankfurt Motor Show the premiere of the fourth generation was held, the novelty received not only a different exterior, but also a new suspension and a more modern engine "Zetec-SE".
In 1999, a deep restyling was carried out, during which the manufacturer significantly revised the suspension. This decision made Fiesta not only the most comfortable, but also the most well-managed car in the class. At the same time, cars with new Zetec engines of 1.2, 1.4 and 1.6 liters appeared on the market. The debut of the fifth generation Ford Fiesta was held in 2008 as part of an auto show in Frankfurt. Compared to the previous generation, the Fiesta 5 became much larger and heavier, and thanks to the enlarged wheelbase it was possible to make the car more spacious. In 2003, the Ford Rs a sports version of "Ford Fiesta ST". In 2005 the car underwent restyling, as a result of which the optics, the radiator grille and the bumper were changed. The sixth generation of the Ford Fiestas was presented to the general public in 2008 as part of the annual auto show in Geneva. This version of the car is manufactured to this day.
If we talk about the corrosion resistance and quality of paint, then it is at a fairly good level, but only on cars until 2005 of release
. Later, the manufacturer began to use water-based paint, which led to a significant deterioration in the quality of paintwork. So, on cars that were released in 2006 and later, the body is quickly covered with scratches and chips. If you choose Fiesta after 2005, pay special attention to the trunk lid, especially in the area of license plate lighting, there is often corrosion. Not renowned for its reliability and lock trunk. It is often enough to change the headlights, and for this you have to remove the headlights (constructive feature
). Also, quickly enough the protective plastic headlights grow turbid.Officially Ford Fiesta was supplied to us only with petrol power units - 1.3 (60 and 70 hp), 1.4 (80 hp) and 1.6 (100 hp)
. The weakest engine 1.3 is absolutely not suitable for long trips, its power is enough only for unhurried movement around the city. As experience has shown, this motor is simple, reliable and inexpensive to maintain, plus it has a modest appetite (up to 7 liters per 100 km). The timing is driven by a metal chain, the resource of which is about 200,000 km. The main disadvantage of this motor is its increased noise during operation.Engines 1.4 and 1.6
equipped with belt drive Timing
, and the valves do not have hydraulic compensators and are regulated by washers. Replacing the belt and adjusting the valves should be carried out at least once every 80,000 km. The main advantage of these motors is that they easily digest not only the 95th, but also the 92nd gasoline. Cars with motor 1.6 are the most expensive on the market, since such power units were installed only on the most expensive complete sets. Of the common problems can be identified a small resource gasoline pump (60-70 thousand km
), also in 70-90 km, a radiator replacement is required. If the car was badly started it's time to change the candles and clean the throttle. Another significant drawback is not officially considered to be the maintainability of these engines. That is, after the engine develops its life or God forbid to break the belt and bend the valve, it will be necessary to change the power unit. Most often, problems with these engines arise due to the fact that the owners rarely serve them, they play a cruel joke and the official interservice interval of 20,000 km. Also, for long and trouble-free operation of engines, it is necessary to constantly monitor the oil level, so that it keeps at least the average mark on the dipstick. Only under such condition the motors will serve without serious breakages up to 300,000 km. On the secondary market, it is rare enough, but, nevertheless, there are Fiestas with diesel engine 1.4 (68 hp) and 1.6 (90 hp)
, as a rule, such cars are imported from Europe. These power units in terms of reliability are not inferior to gasoline ones, their significant drawback is that their fuel system is quite demanding on the quality of diesel fuel, which unfortunately we have a lot of gas stations.
TransmissionFord Fiesta was equipped with three types of transmissions - five-speed mechanics, automatic transmission and robotic transmission "Durashift". There are no obvious problems with the transmission in this model, but still, the most reliable is the manual gearbox. Not a small resource has, and its grip, on average, it nurses 100-120 thousand km. From weak points of mechanics it is possible to allocate: the current gland of the primary shaft, and if the part itself is worth a penny, then for work it is necessary to lay out about 70 cu. Also, not known for their longevity and oil seal axle. If, in order to turn on the gear, you need to apply an effort, do not panic, it's just time to clean and lubricate the guide mechanism.
The robot is very similar to the mechanics, but in it for switching gears is responsible electronics, this type of transmission, like Automatic transmission, like not everyone. The fact is that in automatic mode, the switching takes place with tangible jerks and failures with a sharp acceleration, also, with a long traffic in traffic jams, this type of transmission quickly overheats quickly. It is not famous for the robotic box and a long service life, with proper and careful exploitation its service life rarely exceeds 120-150 thousand km. Therefore, if there is a choice between the robot and the automatic transmission, it is better to give preference to the second option. The Fiesta Fiesta is equipped with a front independent McPherson-type suspension, a semi-independent beam is installed behind it. Operational experience has shown that even on domestic roads the basic elements of the suspension proved to be sufficiently hardy. If we talk about performance and comfort, then in these components the Fiesta suspension deserves only praise. The weakest point of the suspension, as on most cars, are the stabilizer bars and bushings, their service life does not exceed 50,000 thousand km. On average, once in 80,000 km, you will have to change the ball bearings. A little longer (up to 100,000 km) live hub bearings, tips of steering rods, sajletobloki and SHRUSy. Shock-absorbers, supporting bearings and steering rods are capable of holding 100-120 thousand km. Brake pads, on average, nursed on 50000 km, disks more than 100000 km. If an unpleasant creak is heard from the rear suspension, check the fastening and insulation status of the runner cable in the area of the rear beam. This problem is treated with two turns of electrical tape. The peculiarity of the Fiesta suspension is that the failure of any of the details is not always accompanied by characteristic sounds, therefore, try 2-3 times a year to call on the diagnosis of running.
Compared with the sixth generation of Ford Fiesta, the saloon of the fifth looks slightly archaic and some faceless. But, despite the fact that the interior looks rustic, it uses enough quality materials for decoration. So, for example, the upper part of the torpedo is made of soft plastic. As for noise insulation, there is a suspicion that it is simply not there. On electrical equipment, there are often questions about the reliability of window lifters.
Ford Fiesta - one of the most successful cars of the past decade. It is worth acknowledging that today it will be a worthy option for those who are looking for an inexpensive, compact and reliable car with driver driver habits.
- Good handling.
- Low maintenance and repair costs.
- Hardy running.
- Poor sound insulation.
- A small ground clearance.
- Rigid suspension.
- Overheating of automatic transmission.
