Nissan Patrol Salon Problems Used Car

Typical malfunctions Nissan Patrol 5 with a run
Nissan Patrol - a full-fledged SUV with a frame body structure. One of the biggest advantages of this model is that it, with time, does not go out of fashion and does not lose its relevance. Also, the advantages of this car can be attributed to a large margin of safety, which allows the car to remain in good technical condition even after 10 years of operation. But, as often happens, such machines are forgotten correctly and, most importantly, on time to service it, as a result, the copies on the secondary market are not in the best condition. Therefore, today we will talk about what surprises the second-hand Nissan Patrol of the fifth generation can present, and what to look for when examining this car.

A bit of history:
Like many high-grade off-road cars, Nissan Patrol was created as an army car. The first generation of Patrol was introduced in 1951, visually, the car resembled one of America's first army vehicles Willys jeep. A little later, a civilian version of the car was released. The second generation of Nissan Patrol appeared on the market in 1959 and differed from its predecessor by the presence of a soft roof. Starting with this model, the car was assembled with a short, medium and long base. In 1980, the third generation of the car was introduced to the public. Since this generation, all versions have been equipped with a spring suspension. Also, various interior trim options became available, and on the luxury models of the class began to install air conditioning and power steering. In 1983, there was a restyling version of the car, which is better known as "MK Patrol". The fourth generation of Nissan Patrol debuted on the market in 1987. The novelty was very different from its predecessors, not only in appearance, but also technically.
Starting with this version, the car is equipped with a spring suspension, stability stabilizers have appeared, drum brakes have been replaced with disk brakes, and the synchronizer of the rear gear has been installed in the transmission. The fifth generation of Nissan Patrol (Y61) was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1997. Since this generation, the manufacturer has abandoned strict lines in the design, but despite this, the exterior of the car, still, corresponds to the image of a hardy and harsh SUV. The overall length is 510 mm, width 193 mm, height 185 mm. In addition to the elongated five-door version on the market, one can also find a car with a short base (three-door). The car is presented in four types of bodywork: station wagon, pickup truck, cargo van and hardtop. In 2004, a small restyling was carried out: new optics, bumpers and a petrol engine with a volume of 4.8 appeared. In 2010, the completely updated sixth generation Nissan Patrol appeared on the market (Y62).

Nissan Patrol
Running ahead, I want to note that one of the most vulnerable places Nissan Patrol is the body. Despite the fact that the paintwork is not of poor quality, corrosion on the body of this car - a common phenomenon. Most often, rust appears at the joints of doors, thresholds and wheel arches. And, if there is no rust in these places, then the car was thoroughly prepared for sale, in this case, the main thing is that the place affected by corrosion should be cleaned and treated with anticorrosion material, and not simply filled with paint. At the fifth generation petrol patrol, petrol engines were installed - 4.5 ( 200 hp) and 4.8 (245 hp) and diesel - turbocharged 2.8 (125 and 136 hp), 3.0 (158 and 170 hp) and the atmospheric 4.2 (125 hp) . The most optimal option for buying is a diesel power unit with a volume of 3.0 liters, as gasoline engines have an unreasonably high fuel consumption, and less powerful diesel is frankly lacking. The motor of the first three years of production had a significant drawback (the pistons burned out), but in 2004 the manufacturer upgraded and eliminated this defect. In the rest, this power unit is very reliable and with timely maintenance it can serve more than 500,000 km of run without overhaul. However, minor troubles may appear after 200,000 km. Thus, in particular, problems were noted with the sensor of the air mass meter (the traction disappears) and oil pressure in the main and intercooler (if not eliminated on time, there is a high probability of burned pistons). For each maintenance it is recommended to check the condition Injection pump, because when it malfunctions, malfunctions occur in the operation of the injection system. Also, over time, oil leaks from under the rings of the vacuum pump. The 2.8 engine is less reliable than the more powerful engine in terms of reliability and practically does not cause problems, but only if you do not allow overheating (in most cases, the head of the cylinders cracked, the replacement would cost about $ 1500.). In order not to run into an overheated engine, make sure to diagnose the engine in the service. Unlike other power units, this motor is equipped with a belt drive Timing, which requires attention during operation (interval of replacement of 60-80 thousand km of run).
It is also worth noting that all diesel engines are sensitive to fuel quality. The resource of the turbine, on average, is 200-250 thousand km, and its replacement is not a cheap pleasure (about 1000 USD.). To check the condition of the turbine, it is necessary to remove the hose that leads from the turbine to the intake manifold, if there is an oil in it, the turbine, will soon have to be changed. Also, on cars with a run of more than 200,000 km, hydrocompensators start to knock (replacement of 200-300 cu.). There are no special remarks and to the reliability of gasoline engines, their biggest drawbacks are: high fuel consumption (dabout 25 liters per 100 km), a small power reserve and a low life of the belt tensioner pulley attachments (up to 60000 km).
Nissan Patrol
At the Nissan Patrol fifth generation was equipped with two types of gearbox - mechanics and automatic transmission. Both transmissions are reliable enough and do not cause great trouble 400-500 thousand km. The resource of the clutch of the mechanical transmission directly depends on the operating conditions, but it is worth noting that even in the hard offroad mode, it will serve not less than 60 thousand km, and with careful operation it can please the mileage and 200,000 km. The car is equipped with a plug-in all-wheel drive (standard rear-wheel drive), but since there is no inter-axle differential in it, it can only be used on slippery, snowy or sandy roads, and also, off-road. Otherwise, premature wear of transmission parts (transfer case, bearings, etc.) and tires - is inevitable. When inspecting the transmission of the car, you need to pay attention to the condition: distributions and bridges, and also, check the level and condition of the oil in these mechanisms. To all, require special attention "harba" (clutch), anthers rotary fists, crossings and slotted joints kardana.Lovor about the level of comfort in the car is not necessary, as the front and rear suspension of Nissan Patrol dependent (continuous bridges with springs suspended on powerful levers) and very tough. If we talk about its reliability, then everything depends on the operating conditions, but it's worth noting that even in the conditions of severe exploitation of special problems, the suspension does not deliver. On average, such consumables as stanchions and bushings of the stabilizer, live up to 80,000 km. Silencers, bearing bearings, tips of steering rods, bearing bearings and stuffing boxes will have to be changed somewhere in 100-150 thousand km. One of the weakest points in the suspension is the mechanism for changing the stiffness of the stabilizer stroke. With constant off-road assault, it quickly fails (appears as a knock on the suspension) and requires a replacement, and this is not a cheap pleasure (about 1000 cu.). Therefore, for the sake of economy, many owners set an all-metal rack. Steering is reliable, but with frequent on-road off-roading, there may be problems with the steering damper. The salon is made of high-quality materials, so even on cars with a mileage of more than 300,000 km, it does not look badly shabby, and while driving is not annoying creaks and knocks. As for the reliability of electronics, there are failures in it, but, as a rule, they are insignificant and are eliminated by restarting the system.
Nissan Patrol

In the city I constantly use Nissan Patrol will be inconvenient, since it is not rotary, and fuel consumption is very high, but on the road - to him there is virtually no equal.
Pluses:
  • Frame construction of the body.
  • Spacious salon.
  • A large resource of main units.

Disadvantages:
  • Weak corrosion resistance of the body.
  • High fuel consumption.
  • Rigid suspension.
